The Appalachian Trail

Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway begins at the southern end of Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and ends at Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Parkway headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina. There are campgrounds, hiking trails, lodges, housekeeping cabins, restaurants and gift shops, along with spectacular views and interesting historic examples of Appalachian culture.
Jefferson National Forest
The 19,300-acre Jefferson National Forest offers many types of recreational activities, including camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, swimming, biking, and cross-country skiing, along with lots of watchable wildlife areas.
Claytor Lake State Park
Located on the 4,500-acre, 21-mile-long Claytor Lake just a half-hour from Blacksburg, Claytor Lake State Park offers a wide variety of activities for water and land enthusiasts. There are miles of hiking trails, swimming, camping facilities, cabins and a visitor center. |
